New family Member

So some folks have kids, a fine goal to be sure. we on the other hand have boats. And i would like to introduce you all to the newest member O' da clan. A true Olympian!!!
My information says South African.
Its a fine piece of work.
The work on the inside is amazing, better than some airplanes, the rudder has had some hits but is in good shape.
And from the back.
Ok lets see her!

I need to make a skirt for her and mend one small crack in the bow and i thing there will be years of fun scooting across the water in store for us!

Hey some Guy!!!

Ok time to pay the price for a sander. Here are some sketches and the final product. I wouldn't let the rangers see this shirt before you put in, it might get you searched. I do hope that Sam, Tubbo, Neil, and the rest of the crazy's like it.
So its a start, you gotta start some where right?
Lookin' more like Sam i am.. not there yet.
Like the bow tie, closer, closer.
Crap, absolute crap. But enough to go for it.

Enjoy guys, don't let it get you arrested... I had nothing to do with it.

Scarf fin

So after the cold snap the scarf joints finally cured and came off the floor. For the most part they look great. I wish some day i can create a perfect scarf joint every time. Some day.. Some day... Any how here they are with some pics of the cut out panel.

Here are the chine logs.
A panel almost cut out and just for fun and scale!!!

Theft and Cold

Stealing is wrong. Especially tools people, wrong, wrong, wrong! Now borrowing for an extinded period of time.... kind of a grey area.

I awoke to one hell of a cold, both the illness and the temperature. My scarf joints were going to take days to cure in the now freezing garage an i was sick as all hell. So off to bead i went. As i lay there checking my e-mail to my surprise this is what i found.

Stuber-ific. Hey brother. Hows it going? Work on dory looks bomber. I can't belive you're building it with those rinky dink tools. No offense meant, but that really is impressive. I know how difficult it can be to get a top notch product from machines that aren't necessarily top notch. Well, I guess that's when the true craftsman starts showing. I have no doubt that it will be a remarkable vessel and honestly, I can't wait to ride in it. Enough ass kissing for now. Got somewhat of a proposition for ya'. I know you're super busy but I was wondering if you have time for a small little project for me. I was thinking about getting some t-shirts made for our Grand trip this June, but it would be oh so cooler if you would draw/design something:) I know that I would love a simple logo to possibly have embroidered on the front of a t-shirt and possibly a hat, and then a super duper one off Stuber for the back, integrating the logo "Don't worry, we're professionals" on it somewhere. Possibly dates June 4 - June 19, 2012. The logo could be something as simple as a hand sketched map of the river. I don't know, something simple, but cool. Additionally, I'd love to frame the drawings you create for a cool keepsake. Anyway, completely understand if you don't have the time or desire, but to make it worth your wild, I figured that we could trade your artistic services for that Porter Cable sander. I've got another one and you could obviously use it more than me. Anyhoo, zip me a line or give me a yell to let me know what you're thinking. I'd love to give the designs to a printer by the middle of March if possible. Hope you and Lea are well and happy in TN. Cheers, some guy.

Ok so a friend wants a t-shirt design, sweet i love that shit, problem is as it turns out i owe a little favor. I did borrow a sander. This sander to be exact.

Yep the sander in the blog photos. To be honest i was planing on giving it back, just after this boat project was done but now with the possibility of ownership for a t-shirt design. Some Guy its on!!!

and the scarfs just keep on coming!

Ok so with the scarfs cut for the chine logs it's time to make the first side panel. Three sheets of Ocome to create one giant sheet.
so here are the three sheets laid out to be joined. Just like the Oak only softer. One problem i ran into was the lack of a good sanding block. I thought that these were something one could find at a wood shop but as i am finding more and more wood shops around the Knoxville Tn area are as useless at tits on a rusty gas can. So i made my own.
Than i sanded my way to some good looking scarf joints.

Once paper thin and ready for glue, the plyood and oak got laid out on the floor for epoxy.
Once glued up it was time to turn the light off of this project and let chemistry to its work.

Scarf Scarf Scarf

It has com to my attention that i will not be able to buy some of the wood for this boat. I at least am not willing to pay for some of the wood for this boat, mainly the chine logs. Super long pieces of oak that do exist in the world... just not my world. Enter the Scarf Joint. So here are some pica of it all coming together.
Its all about the layout people, that and having a respirator and a belt sander. Oak is tough stuff, don't believe me just give this a try at home.
As the shape comes together so does the dust fly. Don't forget to enjoy it!
